From the Manufacturer
MBT shoes are physiological footwear--the first footwear that has a positive effect on the entire body. MBT stands for "Masai Barefoot Technology." Their innovative design includes a multi-layered, curved sole which makes for a unique and rewarding walking experience. The key to MBT is its patented sole structure. The shank, PU midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body. Wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you’re walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles. Wearing MBT shoes can also be a therapeutic tool for back, hip, leg and foot problems. At MBT they don't believe in shoes. They believe in footwear that makes you better from the ground up.

By Molly Zenk
I've been interested in MBT shoes for over a year but never wanted to pay 200+ dollars for a pair of shoes. That's more than I paid for my netbook! These better be some magic shoes. At 12, I was diagnosed with scoliosis, so live with constant low back pain/pressure. Added to that, I have high arches that cause heel pain, plus arthritic knees and weak ankles. Barely into my 30s, good shoes are a must. I wanted to try toning/rocking shoes for the fitness and health benefits but never wanted the MBT price tag...till now.
I went to THE WALKING COMPANY at our local mall fully intending to just try on the MBT Sirima to make sure of my size before ordering online. One step gave me instant relief on my back pain/pressure. I knew I would hate myself if I cheaped out and walked out of that store without them. I thought I'd always have to live with the pain. Now I know I don't. Some insurance companies will reimburse the cost of MBT shoes as durable medical equipment. I'm calling mine to see. Even if they don't cover the cost, I'm still extremely happy with my purchase. . .high price tag and all.
I've tried nearly all the similar shoes that claim to do the same in "toning" and "therapeutic" benefits and, in case you're wondering, here's how they compare based on my experiences:
-Sketcher Shape Ups: closest you're going to get to MBTs without the high price tag. They use different material, though, and wear out quickly. Pretty comfy, but better for fitness than pain relief I think. The "rocking" soles works best for heel and back problems. Costco now sells them for $49.
-Reebok EasyTone: Cuter and more comfortable than Sketchers. The "pods" are easier to get used to walking in. My knees and feet HURT if I walked a long ways in them or on hard surfaces (like concrete Costco floor), though. Think they're better if you don't have the high arch. Have seen them for as little as $49 online.
-Therashoe: K-mart version of toning/health shoe. Good selection of styles. LOVE the boots with small "rocking" heel. Great for winter. The rocking heel tennis shoes and mules are cute -- my knees and back didn't hurt after walking long distances. The sandals are okay, but I twisted my ankle a couple times and ended up donating them to ARC. $29 or less. Usually they have BOGO 50% sales.
-Champion Fit-N-Stride - Payless Shoes. The clerk told me these were made by the same factory that made the Reebok Easytone but they stamped "Champion" instead of "Reebok" on them. You could not tell the different at all if you didn't look at the name. The rocking ones were identical to the Sketcher Shape Ups, the Pod ones identical to EasyTone, and the sandals to the Reebok Easytone sandals. I LOVED the sandals and wore them till the strap broke (the memory foam foot bed was wonderful). The pod shoes were good but my knees, back, and feet would hurt if I wore them too long. Very good price, though. $29 or less. BOGO 50% sale.
Hope this review and comparison helps!

By Shoe Person
These shoes are awesome! They are as promised, super comfortable. First of all you don't need to break them in. I've had them for a week now and I haven't experienced any blisters or discomfort with or without socks. I've spent 2 days walking around Hong Kong which is very hilly and they have protected my feet and especially my bad knee every well. I'm so pleased with them I've just order another pair of MBT shoes, the Habari for the summer.
One thing I didn't like which has nothing to do with the shoes, is that I had to pay for delivery considering they cost $265, I think delivery should be free.

Very nice, solid shoe...a bit awkward to get used to the rounded sole but very promising for long-term stability and wear. Arrived in timely fashion and good shape.
