Product Description
The MBT Tembea Men will be like no other sneaker you've ever worn. While its upper gives this men's sneaker the appearance of an ordinary shoe, there's magic happening underfoot. The thick rubber outsole has been specially designed to increase the muscle activity required for each step while also ensuring a natural, comfortable rolling motion. From the Manufacturer
MBT shoes are physiological footwear--the first footwear that has a positive effect on the entire body. MBT stands for "Masai Barefoot Technology." Their innovative design includes a multi-layered, curved sole which makes for a unique and rewarding walking experience. The key to MBT is its patented sole structure. The shank, PU midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body. Wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you’re walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles. Wearing MBT shoes can also be a therapeutic tool for back, hip, leg and foot problems. At MBT they don't believe in shoes. They believe in footwear that makes you better from the ground up.

I have a lot of leg, foot and lower back issues due to severe bone breaks several years ago. These are the only shoes that allow me to walk pain-free for hours at a time. I have a new spring to my step and my posture is corrected wearing this shoe. The shoe cushions the entire body well. Actually, this shoe feels like a sneaker. I would not purchase this model as a dress shoe as it's more for casual wear. The black color hides the large outsole. With other colors (brown), the large outsole is more visible. This years model(s) sport(s) the new low-profile outsole which looks better than the previous years model(s). As the other reviewer noted, this is a heavy shoe. Every pair of MBT I own is heavy - this is three pairs total. I would rate this a five out of five, but the weight and styling bring it down a star. However, the feel is remarkable! Sometimes one has to sacrifice style for comfort!

By Gary Romero
I have about five pair of MBTs and this is the most attractive given the odd shape of the shoe. The MBT has done wonders for my foot pain and I can now walk for hours whereas pre-MBT I was good for less than an hour before the pain was intense. I recently bought a pair of Sketchers Shapeups which has a similar design. The Shapeup has worked as well as the MBTs for substantially less cost. However Sketchers does not have a casual shoe in the class of the MBT Tembea. As other manufacturers enter the market with similar designs perhaps MBT will lower their prices or at least consumers will have a lower cost alternative.

By D. McLain
I have been wearing these shoes about 7 months now and have been very happy with them. They are well made and have held up. I bought them to wear on a trip to Africa with a lot of walking. I have had plantar fasciitis on the right and a tib-fib fracture on the left with ankle pain. These shoes have been very comfortable. They do require some "breaking in". Not because they are stiff but because the balance is different. They are like wearing ski boots at first. You have to get used to how they change your balance (for the better). So I wore them for several hours at a time until I got used to them. I did slip once when I walked on a slick surface and reflexly leaned backwards. Just like with skis, I fell on my bottom. I learned to stay forward and haven't fallen since. After you wear these for a while, you start walking on the middle of your foot. You can walk very quickly and comfortably. They do work your calves and buttocks. I used to have trouble getting out of the passenger seat of my wife's convertible. I felt like an old person having to pull myself out. Now it is much easier to get out. I assume these shoes have gotten my legs stronger. I would highly recommend them. They are casual. I asked my wife if I could wear them to work and she said, "No, too casual". So I purchased another pair that are brown leather from the same manufacturer (MBT). I just couldn't go back to the Rockports. They were comfortable but not like these shoes. Definitely worth the money.
